José Manuel Cardiel: the dream of exhibiting at the Guggenheim of the renowned Aragonese doctor

Jose Manuel Cardiel He is one of those people for whom 24 hours a day seem short. Doctor of vocation, for 40 years he developed medicine as a stomatologist, and is currently part of the Quirón surgery team with Dr. Eloy Tejero.

In addition, Cardiel is a consul of Honduras, Vice President of the College of Physicians, a talk show host on Cadena Cope, on Aragón Tv and artist since 33 years ago he discovered his passion for painting.

All these facets and many more things fill not only his professional resume, but also his life resume, capturing his way of being in each of his works: restless, dynamic and persistent. It has been said that he is the “Aragonese Pollock” for his painting style, abstract expressionism. Cardiel uses the technique of dripping consisting of spontaneously and energetically splashing the paint on a canvas through his hands without practically using brushes.

«It all started as a hobby, but I am very persistent and consistent in my manifestations, and what at the beginning was a hobby, for two years has almost become another profession, since, I am and will continue to be a doctor until I retire," describes the artist.

Each of his canvases is an explosion of color, delicately distributed with good taste and has a wide variety of work, from small paintings to large ones. In addition to the paintings inspired by Pollock's work, Cardiel also has a collection of more than 50 Virgins of the Pilar, all of them with their own style.

More than 40 of his works They are distributed in places as relevant as NATO or the European Parliament. In addition to being present in emblematic Aragonese institutions such as Zaragoza City Council, Aljafería Palace, Aragón Justice, Royal Academy of Medicine, Faculty of Medicine and the rectorate. Likewise, we can enjoy his work in different hospitals in Zaragoza: Montpellier, El Clínico, Miguel Servet or Quirón.

THE FUTURE OF CARDIEL

José Manuel Cardiel has a clear horizon, His most ambitious dream is to exhibit at the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao. Another of his challenges is to exhibit in Arco and even in Paris.

Although for the artist, letting go of each painting is like a small “grief, it is like a child that you let go, after having been there creating it, it leaves and you no longer see it.” The artist recognizes that He likes that there is a little piece of his history in all those places where there is his work.
